Third Post – Johannesburg

Another week has gone by and I cannot believe it. I have gotten used to our weekly routine. We spend long days on campus and then come back to the Guest House exhausted! This week has been a little slower than the previous two weeks on campus. Final exams have started at Wits and they last for four weeks. This was the first week so many students were off studying. Although it was a slow week and frustrating at times, God grew me through it and proved his faithfulness.

There were four more students who surrendered their lives to Christ as Lord and Savior! Their names are Alex, Chavi, Zinzi, and Wendila (Mlu and Lwazi surrendered their lives last week). Please pray that their conversions are genuine and they begin to bear good fruit, for a tree is known by its’ fruit (Matthew 12:33).
I have been challenged this week with being uncomfortable. I naturally seek comfort no matter where I am or what I am doing. Even though this is not necessarily bad, it does become a problem when I trade being comfortable for stepping out on faith. I am convinced that stepping out on faith and being uncomfortable is exciting. Before Christ, I was a purposeless life going nowhere that would last for any kind of eternity, only temporary. Yet, Christ, compelled by love, lived the life that I should have lived and died the death that I should have died, in order to redeem me and give me a purpose. That is not boring, that is exciting. Even though it means that I will be uncomfortable, I would rather live an exciting, uncomfortable life than a predictable, easy life.

Please pray that I would internalize this. Also, please pray for salvation for the men that Roy and I are ministering to: Pule, Cedrick, Tandile, Odwa, Roger, Tepee, Lelu, Kabelo, and Kacheleho. Also, please pray for the men and women student leaders here at Wits. Pray that they would be equipped to disciple these new believers. This has been such an exciting, eye-opening experience. My prayer is that I would not regress in my walk with God upon my return to the states. Once again, thank you all for your support and prayers! For he came to give life and life in abundance (John 10:10).

  2. Brother, so good to read your updates.
I pray that your love would grow more and more for these students and that you would keep growing in knowledge and understanding of God Himself. For I want you would understand what really matters so that you may live a pure and blameless life until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your SALVATION the righteous character produced in your life, for this will bring much glory and praise to God. (Phil 1:9-11) Praying for you, the team, and these new brothers in Christ.

  3. kyle!
what an incredible post! my heart is seriously overjoyed by how much “God stuff” is in it! it is so evident that God is doing so much…
I have been praying specifically and expectantly for those men, and you can count on me continuing to do so for all those that you listed. there is so much POWER in PRAYER!
I pray that God continues to reveal so much more of Himself to you and that you would see your heart as He sees it. may you find your COMFORT in the steadfast LOVE of our Lord! (psalm 119:76)
His love is so deep and endless, I don’t see how comfort can’t be found in that! :)

thanks for the updates…you’re doing a great job keeping us informed so we can know how to pray. “…press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (phil 2:14)

  4. Plum,

I have prayed and will continue to pray for you every day. I have a post-it on my computer screen.

“The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.” 1Timothy 1:5

    Keep it up! :-)

  5. Hey bro, I have been praying for you! It is awesome to see how God can use sinners like us to advance his kingdom. I hope you are having a great time being able to be used by God!

  6. Kyle,

Hi. You don’t really know me, but Clint Johnson mentioned you were in Joburg. I just graduated from Cedarville and am here for the summer. I’m traveling and writing for an organization that trains pastors.

I’ve been praying for some community and was wondering if there was any way I could meet up with your group. It would be such an answer to prayer!! Please, let me know if there’s any way this can happen. I live in Springs, in Johannesburg, but could probably work a way towards your team, wherever you are.

Prayers for your team tonight! The gospel of Jesus is so powerful. HE IS SUFFICIENT!

  7. Just out of curiosity, how is the book reading coming? I read the book by Mahaney, and was definitely impacted by it. Keep on running towards the goal!

  8. Heyy Kyle! Hope everything is going well. I just left your house today, it was weird not seeing you there. But I had fun. I hope your having fun. I miss you a lot. Be safe.

    Love – Kendall.

  9. Hey Kyle! Good to hear u r learning from and experiencing God in your life and seeing that in the lives of others!
I can relate well to this post:)…Living by faith is certainly exciting! But for sure not always easy for us in our weakness. And i agree, it shatters any life we could live on our own! It is also very rewarding even if we can’t always see the reward now. Know that it is glorifying God! Also know that when u share your experiences, and your excitement, and what u are learning, it is so encouraging to others and an incredible witness! i have been encouraged and reminded that God is always faithful and worth giving everything for! i mean why else would you be doing this, right!?:)So cool. and one more thing, speaking of living in the uncomfortable I just read Acts 20:22-27 check it out…Paul is such a stud, I learn so much from that man haha…prayin for ya!
    -Joy

  10. I will continue praying for you, your fruitful ministry, and the people whose hearts and lives you have touched. Be safe and enjoy your walk with the Lord. God bless you
