Last 10 Days in Jo-Berg

We spent our last day on campus yesterday (Thursday). It was hard to believe that our summer labors on campus are over! We had to say goodbye to some first year students which was tough. Yesterday we had a “Word Feast.” Basically a Word Feast is a three hour time period of feasting out on God’s Word. We went through 1st Peter with the Wits students, they seemed to really like it. Peter directs the churches in Asia minor to set their eyes on Christ’s example and the imperishable inheritance that we have through Christ. He exhorts them to live in holiness and to endure well through trial and suffering. It was a rich time for me.

Today we are leaving to go to a leadership retreat for the Wits students. It is a three day event that was setup in order to better equip student leaders at Wits for the upcoming semester. Our team has the privilege of attending the event. It will be a bitter-sweet time for me. The retreat will be very enjoyable, however this will be the last time I get to spend time with these students I have spent the last six weeks with. I am really going to miss these guys.

After the leadership retreat our team is staying around to do some “mercy ministry.” I’m not sure to what capacity we will be serving. However, we will be in a pretty poor part of South Africa, just outside of Johannesburg. Pray that God would allow us to love the people we will serve (Micah 6:8). We will then depart from there and come back to the guest house. Then we will repack and take off for a leisurely stroll through the African plain…A.K.A. a safari! This should be pretty sweet. I told my mom that we would be hunting some of the big game here in Africa, but unfortunately I don’t think they are going to let us ;) After our safari, which will be three days long, we will come back to the guest house for a two-day summer debriefing. We will depart on the 29th of June at 9:30pm South African time. Wow! I cannot believe how fast it has gone!

  1. Kyle,

Sounds like a great experience you are having. You and your team have a safe trip back and we’ll see you when you get home.

    Peace and Joy,
    Pastor Dennis

  2. Hey Kyle,

Good to read about your time. I am glad for this experience and how God will use it in your life. There is something about these times that shapes even how we view scripture and how we view people.
It will be good to have you back. Stopped up at camp the other day and didn’t see you then remembered you had mentioned something about a trip.
    God’s peace to you.

    Kent

  3. wow! i can’t believe that it’s almost time for you to come home! i’m sure it’s bittersweet… just enjoy the moments you have left and soak it all up!
so…God gave me this verse a couple weeks ago and it has been very impactful in my life. God brought you to mind when i read it, but i don’t know why its taken me this long to share it with you! regardless…here it is:
hebrews 10:35-56 “therefore do not throw away your CONFIDENCE which has a great reward. for you have need of ENDURANCE, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.”

  4. Kyle, glad to hear that God is doing great things for you and through you! I hope the rest of your time there continues to be awesome! and that your travels back to the states are safe! & be sure enjoy every moment you have there in the last few days!
